Pima Dems Urge Southern Arizonans to Unite Against Cherrybell Closure.

The Pima County Democratic Party joins Congressman Raúl M. Grijalva, the office of Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords, the Pima County Board of Supervisors, County Recorder F. Ann Rodriguez, Council Member Richard Fimbres and the entire mayor and council in opposing the closure of the Cherrybell Postal Facility.

County Recorder Rodriguez explained in a letter to the United States Department of Justice that, “… the change will clearly impact the activities of the state and county elections officials in Arizona and will cause a detrimental impact to voters.”

Council Member Fimbres brought the matter to the City Council, where opposition to the closure received a unanimous vote. In addition, he wrote an op-ed that appeared in yesterday’s Arizona Daily Star, encouraging action by stating that, “A decision will occur in May, but we must speak up now, for Cherrybell, Tucson and Southern Arizona.”

Ron Barber, District Director for Congresswoman Giffords strongly opposed the proposed closure during a hearing held in Tucson in late December.

We join these leaders and call on all concerned citizens to have their voices heard by submitting a letter, to be post-marked no later than Thursday and sent to:
