Pima County Democratic Party Elects New Chair
Pima County Democrats elected a new Chair, Dr. Jo M. Holt of Oro Valley. Dr. Holt is a retired research biochemist and a previous candidate for the AZ State Senate from Legislative District 11. She has most recently been serving as the Democratic Legislative District 11 Chair.
In addition to her work for the Democratic Party, Dr. Holt is actively involved in the Rotary Club of Marana and in Zonta International of the Casa Grande Valley. She earned her PhD in Biochemistry from Colorado State University in 1982, then spent a decade conducting research in molecular biophysics at the University of Arizona. She retired from Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis in 2006 in order to care for her husband, who has since passed away from early-onset Alzheimer’s disease.
Upon her return to the Tucson area she became active in politics, mostly out of great concern for what she saw as an increasingly extremist political climate in Arizona. “It is essential that our county party continues to strengthen at the grassroots. I’m excited to work with concerned voters throughout the county to reinforce our Democratic message of equal opportunity and true representative democracy. It’s up to voters to stop the essentially limitless amount of money that political committees spend to buy the election of our lawmakers as well as their loyalty,” said Holt.
