Glassman Shows Commitment to Governing

While one southern Arizona politician has decided to put his ambition ahead of his job, Tucson Vice Mayor Rodney Glassman has decided to do his job before making an announcement on his possible U.S. Senate bid.

Others, like Republican State Sen. Jonathan Paton, have abandoned their posts during a budget crisis, when their constituents need them the most. Glassman on the other hand continues to do the hard work required to get Tucson’s financial house in order and will let his intentions be known after the Tucson City Council balances its budget.

"Sometimes stepping out of your elected post is understandable," said Pima County Democratic Party Chair Jeff Rogers. "But it's hard to justify when you are in the majority and have a real role in shaping a policy that could get Arizona out of the mess Republican lawmakers spent 20 years creating. Glassman is showing he takes his job seriously."

Glassman and his City Council colleagues are also coping with a host of micro-managing restrictions the state has placed on cities, making his job that much harder.

"Democrats are awaiting Glassman’s decision, but we know his leadership is immediately needed on the council," Rogers said.
