Pima Democrats Applaud Dupnik's Tough Stand Against "Papers-Please" Law
Pima County Democratic Party Chair Jeff Rogers issued the following statement today regarding Pima County Sheriff Clarence Dupnik’s comments about SB 1070:
"The Pima County Democratic Party salutes Sheriff Clarence Dupnik's courageous stand, refusing to endorse SB 1070 and rightly calling the law "stupid." Clarence Dupnik has 52 years of law enforcement experience and has dealt with border issues longer than just about anyone else in the state. He knows the only way to enforce this bill is through unconstitutional racial profiling, while he already has the authority to apprehend illegal immigrants. Anger over Washington's failures to adequately and fully address immigration is understandable. But anger won't solve the problem. This bill has given Arizona a black eye nationally. It's the thousands of Arizonans like Clarence Dupnik who will restore our image as a state that respects and accepts all of its residents."

Pima County Democratic Party Chair
