A Resolution in Support of TUSD Override Referendum
Arizona already ranks dead last in funding for education and with more impending cuts in education expected from the Arizona State legislature, it will only get worse. With the Phoenix politicians trying to impose their anti-children values onto us, Tucsonans need to take care of their own. Investing in our children is an investment in our economy, our quality of life, and our community.
Be it resolved that the Pima County Democratic Party endorses the Tucson Unified School District Override Referendum for the November election. The Override is a 7% budget increase that would replace about 2/3 of the cuts that the State Legislature imposed on our schools. The funds would be spent on guaranteed all-day kindergarten for all elementary schools, technology upgrades in the classroom and an additional $187 per student that would go directly to each school to be spent in the classroom.
Unanimously approved by the Pima County Democratic Party Executive Committee July 6, 2009. |
